What is ConflictQuest2Go?

Florian often played online blitz chess. It was fun but also stressful due to competition and time pressure. He wished for a in the same way short but more relaxing alternative – ideally something cooperative.

This led to the idea of ConflictQuest2Go: a platform where people can collaboratively tackle other people’s challenges or conflicts.

How does it work?

ConflictQuest2Go uses Mattermost as a chat platform hosted on servers in Germany. There, a digital space exists for people seeking help (Questgivers) and those who want to help (Questmates).

  • Questgivers create a „Channel“ and share the link along with a short description of their challenge in the room „List of Quests.“
  • Questmates join the room and contribute by engaging with the issue and providing input.
  • They can help briefly or stay involved for longer.
  • Once the challenge is solved, the Questgiver closes the room (links to closed rooms are no longer active).

The 4 Rules!

Rule 1: Puzzling in Two Phases

Empathy & Understanding

  • Explore the situation together by expressing empathy, asking questions, sharing associations („This reminds me of…“), making analytical suggestions, etc.
  • The Questgiver can set additional rules (e.g., „Please, empathy first!“).
  • ⚠️ No solutions, advice, or tips during this phase (unless the Questgiver explicitly allows it).
  • The Questgiver actively decides when to move on.

Solving

  • The Questgiver states whether they want solutions, advice, or tips.
  • If yes, everyone contributes ideas.
  • If no, the Questgiver thanks the Questmates and closes the room.
  • The Questgiver can also choose to skip straight to the „Solving“ phase.

Rule 2: Use Pseudonyms!

  • Do not use real names (neither yours nor others‘).
  • Instead of „Mary“ or „Fatima,“ use „Person A“ or „m2000.“
  • Anonymize locations and organizations as well.
  • This protects everyone from potential misuse of information.
  • ConflictQuest2Go is not a secure space! Be aware that anyone can read along.
  • However, you cant create private quests and invite only people you know

Rule 3: The Questgiver Decides!

  • Questgivers can delete any contributions in their rooms without explanation.
  • They can also remove disruptive Questmates without justification.
  • Disruptive Questmates can be reported to the admin team.
  • Reported Questmates will be invited to a dialogue with the admin team to clarify the situation. During this time, they cannot join new rooms.
  • Being reported is not a big deal – it may happen to any of us at some point. Hosting a ConflictQuest can be a vulnerable experience.

Rule 4: Resolve Conflicts Elsewhere!

  • If a conflict arises with another person, leave the room or ask them privately if they are willing to talk.
  • If they decline, respect that.
  • If the conflict bothers you, you can start your own Quest about it.
